American Bars in Vienna

Barfly’s
In the sixth district, at Esterhazygasse 33 is the Hotel Fürst Metternich, hiding inside which is the famous Barfly’s Club. The top address for lovers of the cocktail culture, launched by Mario Castillo in 1989 and is still today a sort of insider tip. An authentic American bar with wonderful wood panelling, soft lighting, the music of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin welcomes visitors. In this waits a 76-page bar list showing Castillo’s Bar Philosophy, Castillo describes the bar counter as a meeting place and propagates the mixing of drinks – without measures -at will A must for all bar lovers.

First Floor
Located in the so-called “Bermuda Triangle” is a bar which does not quite fit with the typical pubs in this area. The First Floor surprises its guests who plunge, from the hustle and bustle of outside, into the world of a traditional American bar. Dimly lit secure, intimacy and exclusivity invite one for excellent cocktails with comfortable music. The fittings, which in part are from the legendary “Mounier” bar in the Kärtnerstraße are mixed with stylish elements such as the aquarium wall in which there no fish, but where the seaweed waves in rhythm.

Kruger’s American Bar
A hot spot since 1920. In the twenties the former “Imperial Bar” in the middle of the red light district was a magnet for the Jeneusse Dorée. Today it is still a meeting place where celebrities like John Irving, Ludwig van Beethoven, as well as Teri Hatcher, Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie have spent an evening. Even Sammy Davis Junior also spent time here and created the drink “Mr. Bojangles “, with the bar manager, which is still to be found on the drinks list today. You have to try it!

Loos American Bar
The bar at No. 10 Kärntner Durchgang, was created by the pioneering architect and visionary, Adolf Loos in 1908. The small bar has an unforgettable atmosphere – in the dim light, you can enjoy excellent cocktails, whisky and more and feel closer in its limited space. For all those who want to see the Bar: It fills up quickly in the evening, so stop by either early or late. From Sunday to Wednesday Loos Bar is open till 4.00 a.m Thursday to Saturday till 5.00 a.m.. Don’t miss it!

Roberto American Bar
From Loos Bar to Roberto’s. Robert Pavlovic, the long-time head bartender of Loos Bar, opened his “Roberto American Bar” in early 2014 at the farmer’s market . A hot spot, where people meet for good drinks or to flirt, chat and celebrate. The ambiance is classic, with its black wood, the alcoves form small private rooms, a large chandelier illuminates the bar with congeneal light. You can happily linger here daily to 4 in the morning.
