Viennese Weinwandertag 2024

On September 28th and September 29th 2024, between 10:00am and 06:00pm the City of Vienna again invites to the annual “Viennese Weinwandertag” (Wine Hiking Days). Those who are interested can not only enjoy the beautiful views over Vienna along the vineyards, but also taste some good drops and delicacies.

Vienna has over 580 hectares of wine-growing area, which is truly unique for a vibrant city. The well-known and popular vineyards at Nussberg, Bisamberg, Kahlenberg and Mauer are managed by 190 winemakers and winegrowers full of dedication and knowledge about the unique product. The Danube as well as the surrounding Wienerwald create a small climate that is ideal for winegrowing.

Fresh Sturm, Grape juice or a fruity G’spritzer

In recent years, wine and hiking lovers could experience the idyllic backdrop for late summer temperatures and beautiful sunshine. A glass of fresh sturm (Wine in fermentation), grape juice or a fruity G’spritzer (white wine mixed with mineral water) fits perfectly with the gorgeous view of the city.

The Hiking routes

There are four routes with a total length of 25 kilometers to choose from.

Route 1 –  Lenght: 10,8km: starts from Neustift am Walde via Sievering, the winery Cobenzl and Grinzing to Nußdorf. In this nearly 10 km long route, the places with a particularly beautiful view are the Bellevuestraße, the Muckenthal and the Eichelhofstraße.

Route 2 – Lenght: 8,8 – 9,6 km: leads from Strebersdorf to Stammersdorf. On the hiking route, you can stop at numerous wine taverns and relax with friends. Wine and typical delicacies invite you to linger. Particularly suitable for families with children is a visit to the children’s farm at the Magdalenenhof (Bisamberg).

Route 3 – Lenght: 2,4 km: starts in Ottakring at the Wilhelminenberg Palace and leads via the Sprengersteig and the Paulinensteig to Neuwaldegg back to Wilheminenberg Castle.

Route 4Lenght: 4,6 km: starts in Mauer at the Ursulinen Kloster (Monastery) and leads via the Wotruba Church to the Sterngarten open-air planetarium to Rodauner Strasse.

The trails are excellent signposted so you can easily grasp what route is suitable. They are not only for the whole family and are interesting for seniors and children, some hiking trails can even be walked with a stroller. Since the beginning and end points of the hiking trails are very easy to reach by public transport, you can leave the car on these days, so you have the opportunity to enjoy one or the other glass from the delicious wine offer.
